Aubade for Inam by Jagari Mukherjee

A yellow-throated bird sings outside my window
and I open my eyes from a dream
of you beside me.

The Sun is a welcome guest
and whispers from the curtain
my dream of you.

The sky turns a sharp white
with the spring in its step
and shyly tries to enquire of
my dream of you.

Last night, we merged in harmony
and in gratitude. Then we merged
again in a dream that lit up
my morning.

I caress the space beside me
on the bed preparing to
welcome you like the Sun
for all my remaining nights.
The yellow-throated bird sings
of my dream of you.
