The Goddess—Kunal Roy

Since time immemorial Goddess Laxmi has been regarded as the one and absolute origin of peace, weath, progress and prosperity. Goddess Laxmi is primarily the tenth Mahavidya of the Bhagavati Adi Shakti. She is the divine spouse of Lord Vishnu. She resides in Vaikuntha. She is restless. She cannot afford to stay in a single place for a long time! However, there are many interesting stories on her which still manage to evoke enough curiosity to unravel her!

Once Devraj Indra was cursed by the sage Durvasha and the Goddess left him to take shelter in the endless ocean. Later during the Samudra Manthan, She took her form again and prosperity returned to the heaven. Another tale tells the Goddess Laxmi forever resides in the old palatial building of Jagat Seth, a highly influential person during the Pre Colonial Days. On the other hand, once a battle broke out between Saturn, the King of Planets and the Goddess. The reason was obvious: Who was Superior? Both approached the King Srivotsho to do the justice! But after the result was announced, Shani became furious and the King had to lose everything! His pains and sufferings was unbearable! Such a period of torment continued for a span of twelve years until the hour ripened when Chinta and Bhadra acknowledged both of them and the Puja of Shanidev began with Goddess Laxmi. Surprisingly, Shanidev embraced the truth that Laxmi was superior to him and rightly worshipped by the people on this earth. Innumerable tales are scattered, much to our delight!

Laxmi is known for her timeless elegance. But her elegance is blended with wisdom to pour blessings on the poor mortals! She utterly believes that wisdom is essential to properly channelise the wealth to benefit the society at large! Moreover, the Goddess sits on a lotus, the symbol of pristine purity. She is four handed. Her arms hold lotus, signifying the essence of sustenance and the other two arms hold a pitcher of flowing gold coins, which represents the truth that wealth is the centre of our life like the Sun God in the solar system!

At this present hour when the world is governed by divided aims and sick hurry, the relevance of Her presence has enhanced indeed! There is not a single moment when money is not required, but chasing wealth can at times push one to the brink of doom! The individual who believes in hard work and earns money in an honest manner always gets the blessings of our Mother! Wealth without wisdom is like a boat without a rudder! The Goddess always aims at showing the right direction to live a happy life before the hour of salvation!

She is omniscient. Her presence is felt everywhere. But She always tests the heart and gives the fruit of our action! Today at this auspicious moment of Purnima ( The Full moon Night) , the Goddess has descended from the heaven to shower her blessings on each one of us. The burning of incense, the chanting of divine hymns , the blowing of conch and above all the Prasad of variety are there to add a different dimension to our mortal existence!!
