A Dark Prelude to Our Independence! A View—Kunal Roy

Let us be honest here. Let us go back to the time when Hetal Parek suffered the same fate. She was raped and slaughtered. Investigation followed. Stories were cooked up. Either seriousness or ignorance was shown. And finally the culprit ( as identified by the law) was caught, prosecuted and executed. However, it is still on the people's mouth that Dhanonjoy was practically innocent. He became the victim of the whole situation. The prime suspect went scot free! It seemed as if law and money had encouraged in a hand -in - glove relation! 

  Quite a few years back, Nirbhaya, a young girl of 23 was gang raped in a white bus by a few notorious beings. Her private parts were severely damaged. She fought for her life, but in vain. After a couple of weeks she breathed her last. Nirbhaya 's mother moved to the end and after a span of eight long years, her offenders were executed. However, the original guilty escaped the clutches. It was stated he was below eighteen and so no such punishment could be awarded to him! 

  Crimes continue unabatedly. Kolkata which was once declared to be safer than any other, barring a few sporadic incidents, in a leading magazine, has turned out be a haven of criminals. Human life is at stake. And now the R G Kar Hospital issue has sparked off a debate in the various layers of our society. A young lady trainee doctor of 31 has been raped and killed before she was left nude in the seminar hall. Controversy has raised its hood. Many have opined that she was raped after being killed! The shadow of glum has engulfed the medical world. Doctors have gone for a strike. They have demanded justice. The " pen down" scenario has caused a huge problem for the common people. 

  It is further asserted that there is no close circuit television in the seminar, which is a myth! The cops saw the footage in the adjoining cameras and concluded the fact that Sanjoy Roy is the root of all evils. Besides, it is not clear whether there were more offenders or not. It is still not ascertained if it was a gang rape or a single rape case. The circumstantial evidence like the blue tooth device helped the police to catch Sanjoy and put him before the investigating team. Sanjay has openly wanted capital punishment and surprisingly his mother has informed that her son is responsible for his heinous crime! How could this be possible? An overnight topsy - turvy situation! The more astonishing factor is the higher officials are not willing to co-operate with the fourth pillar. Every time excuse is being given to weave a different story! 

  The neighbours have shown their grudge against Sanjay. He is also being proposed for a DNA test. Moreover, different allegations against him have created a media hype! Is there any attempt to retell the story of Dhananjay? Is there any motive to protect the prime guilt? Will the history be once more repetitive? Will money ever stop to purchase the protocols of law and order? The answers to such questions are still hidden in the womb of time.

   Nudity- Rape - Slaughter - the trio has become the order of the day. Shamelessly, in our state there is no such punishment for this gross injustice and even if the criminal is caught, he is set free after sometime. Though the honourable Chief Minister has expressed her wish for the 'Capital Punishment', things are still in the mist of time. Whether Sanjay is going to be hanged with his partners or not is a matter to mull upon! It may take weeks, months or years to do justice to that mother who has lost her only child! 

  Tears have neither any value nor importance. Healing of bleeding wounds is a far fetched matter. The high time to hit back, to fight back, to take out their eyes from the sockets and slice them into pieces ! We often forget that we need to fight our own battle and no body is there in the present world to remove the tears from your eyes. You may beat your chest, scream to tear apart the soul, throw your limbs out of immeasurable grief, torment and sorrow, but no result will be yielded! Creating awareness among the mass is an old - worn out story. "An Eye for an Eye" is the only reality if we really want to survive in this strife torn world!!

   Yes! I have mentioned the last line, no matter if the world becomes blind. However, the father of our nation once said that this should not be our motto, else the entire globe will suffer! But what about the injustice grossly inflicted upon the fairer sex day by day. There is hardly any moment when the blood stained story of the women doesn't come to the fore! And surprisingly, there is no one to protest. The reason is simple. You will be shoved to death. Chronic manipulations will not leave you in any form. The present crude tale is a massive witness to the fact, if anyone ever wants to raise the voice against any injustice! 

    It is really a shame to note that every before this 77th Independence, such an event took place with the saviour of mankind! More and more information is coming to the fore. Ranging from the proofs of rape, how it was performed, what was found in her private organs to the efface of evidences in the seminar room to the choice of scape goat to many more grains of sorrow have shaken the nation. How unfortunate it is to see that the pre independence day is going to be observed in the open dark thoroughfares to display their unity, their strength, their oneness. In the nation where Shakti is worshipped with grace and honour. Is this a true revelation? Is this a blind ritual, having no real life significance? The Goddess is decked up in the temple with the precious paraphernalia and the hapless woman is ravished and murdered mercilessly - inviting the rudest shock! If this is not hypocrisy, then what it is! 

   Years have whaled away. Women committees have been formed. Much hue and cry has been there for the Women Empowerment. And this is the example of women empowerment! Strange enough to envisage!! 

   Our history has always shown how women, despite holding top notched positions. Kunti, Draupadi , Amrapali and many more powerful women had been either insulted, deceived made to shed life time tears! Frankly speaking, the 'sky' of the women has not changed even a bit. The choices and preferences have changed, but not the essence of the whole story! 

    Independence doesn't suggest liberation from the political tyranny but the right voice to speak the right thing without pondering on the consequences. If you are on the right track with the right motive, there is no such evil power which can destroy you - something discovered blatantly in the holy texts of this ancient land! 

   So, there should not be any question of doubt, submission or keeping mum. Sum up your powers and radiate them to restore peace and sanctity. Time to enliven the clay Goddess for a better independence and not merely an unabashed ostentation! Any explanation?
