The Divine Discus—Kunal Roy


India is the holy land of Religion and Mythology. Among the different divine weapons used by the Gods and Goddesses to destroy the Adharma and restore the Dharma for the peaceful sustenance of the entire creative process, Sudarshan Chakra always stands out of the crowd. It is defined as a turning plate with razor sharp edges, having unfathomable spiritual powers. 

   The Sundarshan Chakra on the forefinger of Lord Vishnu or Krishna blissfully represents the timeless time and the entreat from the Paradise. The name is derived from two Sanskrit words - 'Su' and 'Darshan'. 'Su' stands for something which is holy and great and 'Darshan' stands for the divine vision. However, this divine weapon prime mission is to expunge the opacity that thrives confidently in the various parts of the universe. It is often asserted that Sudarshan cannot be thrown to destroy the foes. The strength of this mind aids the Chakra to function and returns after the completion of the task! 

    There are countless beliefs which revolve around this interesting fact! Some believe that the Chakra was given to Lord Vishnu by Lord Shiva during the churning of ocean to obtain the elixir! On the other, Vishwakarma, the artist of the heaven created Sudarshan Chakra to fight the demons. Thousands more are there, but devotees worship Sudarshan without paying much attention to such numerous stuff scattered in the old texts of our religion. 

    Innumerable interesting stories are there in our Mythology which bring forth a strong sense of devotion. The body of Sati, daughter of Prajapati Daksha, after her immolation was split into 51 significant parts which fell across the globe to teach the human race the essence of true sacrifice. Each part is a Shakti Peetha, worshipped by thousands of devotees even at this very hour! Anew Lord Vishnu beheaded Swarbhanu after he consumed nectar in disguise. But the nectar already reached his throat. Thus the head is Rahu and the torso is Ketu. Notably both play a very significant role in the 'Indian astrology'. The stories of Shisupal and Jaydrata are known to everyone. An inspiration - how the Lord commanded his Sudarshan to sow the seeds of justice in order preserve the humanity in the accepted sense of term.

   Sudarshan Chakra has also spread its tentacles far and wide. The Chakra is discovered in the coins used by tribal people. Moreover, copper coins found in Punjab contained the picture of Chakra. The Taxila coins also speak of the same fact. In the various reigns, especially Chandragupta 2, the existence of Chakra engraved coins were discovered!!

  Sudarshan Chakra, the celestial device comprises two rows of ten million spikes which function in the reverse directions. A perpetual motion indeed! Although there are many intriguing facts and figures about this heavy divine weapon yet it weaves the most 'divine mystery ' to the human race!!
