Autumn at Etobicoke—Biswajit Chatterjee

drb@68feederroad

Autumn descends slowly upon the empty streets of Etobicoke

Golden hues seep into its changing landscape

Crisp air carries the scent of pollen and fallen leaves

Older men and asthmatics carry their mask and seasonal inhaler while going out.

Nature is somewhat ignorant of people's woe

The sound of leaves grow stronger as the day passes bye

It sounds like whispers from not too far off Ontario lake

And Etobicoke's parks transform into a moving kaleidoscope

Fading sunlight filters through the tall trees casting ghostly shadows

People walk on either side of the road wearing wind cheaters of a new season

I begin walking slowly on the left towards Royal York metro station

And deliberately miss the monotony of the local festival of light.

Only some trees without leaves stand alone..naked and tall

While autumn's pallette paints the city with colours of the fall..
