Penprints Publication Hosts Dual Book Launch Celebrating Poetry and Prose
Penprints Publication organized a vibrant literary evening on 13 December 2025, marking the launch of two significant books 'Amour and Anger' by renowned poet Subodh Sarkar, translated into English by Bappaditya Roy Biswas, and 'Walking in the Rain' by acclaimed writer and film critic Shoma A. Chatterji. The event brought together distinguished scholars, poets, translators, and literature enthusiasts, reaffirming Penprints’ commitment to quality publishing and meaningful literary dialogue.
The session on 'Amour and Anger' featured an eminent panel comprising Sanjukta Dasgupta, Gopal Lahiri, Jaydeep Sarangi, and Madhu Sriwastav. The discussion explored the emotional range, political undercurrents, and lyrical intensity of Subodh Sarkar’s poetry, while also engaging with the challenges and nuances of translation. This was followed by a compelling conversation between Subodh Sarkar and translator Bappaditya Roy Biswas, offering insights into the collaborative process behind translating poetic sensibilities across languages. The session concluded with a poetry reading, where eminent poets from Kolkata recited their works, adding a performative richness to the evening. An additional element to the program was the august presence of Dr. Devendra Kumar Devesh, Regional Secretary, Regional Office, Sahitya Akademi Kolkata.
The second half of the programme focused on Shoma A. Chatterji’s 'Walking in the Rain'. The panel included Sanjukta Dasgupta, Nishi Pulugurtha, Ajanta Paul, Somdatta Mandal, and the author herself. The discussion highlighted themes of memory, introspection, and everyday resilience that shape the book. A lively rapid-fire round between Shoma Chatterji and Sutanuka Ghosh Roy added warmth and spontaneity to the session, followed by another engaging poetry reading.
The event was gracefully hosted by Sreetanwi Chakraborty, Editorial Director of Penprints. Supriyo Chakraborty, Founder and Managing Director of Penprints Publication, also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of professionalism, editorial integrity, and sustained literary excellence.
